California College of the Arts
Studio Gang has completed the latest expansion project for the California College of the Arts (CCA) campus in San Francisco. This newly constructed hybrid cross-laminated timber building not only supports art and design education but also sets a new benchmark in sustainable architecture. By connecting with the college’s existing main teaching building, the new structure creates a space that integrates indoors and outdoors, inspiring collaboration and communication among students, faculty, and various creative disciplines.
The 82,305 square foot expansion project designed by the California College of the Arts (CCA) is based on a sturdy concrete foundation. The design team optimized the ground floor space to meet the needs of creative practices, featuring large flexible work areas suitable for workshops and manufacturing spaces, and opened up two spacious creative courtyards within the concrete base, providing ample sunlight and ventilation to create an ideal environment for collaboration among artists and designers.
